Post #3 -- After your first week of classes

What has surprised you? My biggest surprise and disappointment was the fact that for me to take Polynesian dance class I have to take it as a normal class, I had been taking this class since I was 8 in and out the School as an extracurricular activity and here at least this semester I'm not going to be able to take it. My second surprise was to see so many people that is already married and have kids, I knew there would be some but not that much.

What has been the biggest challenge so far? My biggest challenge is still the cold, and the fact that I get lost, for example I still wandering how to put money in my card, and sometimes to find the books, or the way out of some place ;).

What are you planning on doing for the rest of the semester in order to be successful? I'm not sure, I think that study, don't leave everything to the last minute.

Post #3--After the first week of classes

After a week of classes I am still surprised at how many new faces I see every day. I knew there would be a lot of people on campus but the sheer volume of people streaming out of the MARB around 10:50am on Mondays and Wednesdays is still amazing to me. I am also surprised that I feel so comfortable and at ease here. I thought I would feel lost but I have never felt so "found" as I have this past week.

One of the biggest challenges for me has been meeting people and making the amount of friends I expected to. It is almost like there are so many people that it's hard to get to know anyone. I have also been having a hard time feeling organized and managing my time, which is a constant battle for me. The most difficult challenge I still face is finding a job.

Over the semester I plan to stay on top of assignments rather than procrastinate (hopefully.) I also plan to get more organized and use my time more wisely than I have been known to do. I am looking forward to a challenging yet successful semester.

Post #3--After my first week of classes

I didn't know much about Brigham Young University, but I was surprised to see that many people had chosen to come here to do their education. I had seen on BYU television that this was a big campus, but viewing it in person is just, different. I should have known better, this is a great university and many people would be coming to take care of their education.
My biggest challenge so far is working out my schedule. I've chosen to major in Geology as it is the closest thing on campus to paleontology, and I didn't have the required classes in my schedule. My original Geology class was Introduction to Geology, and the professor (who preferred that we call him Master Skinner) told me I needed to take Geology 111. I was also told to see Dr. Brooks Britt, a paleontologist on campus. He also suggested I take Chemistry 105. I had to drop some classes to make room for them, but Chemistry was filled up online, so I had to get a Permission-To-Add code to get into the class that wouldn't cause problems with the rest of my schedule.
For the rest of the semester, I plan to follow a plan in a book my Mom found in a book at the Church Bookstore called How to get Straight A's, which have ideas of how to do college level work. I've been doing good with some of the stuff, but when I work out the schedule and have it posted up in my room, I know I will succeed.

After attending NSO

I loved my NSO experience. The students and staff that helped to organize everything were very friendly in helping to understand what I needed to do to have a fun, enjoyable and helpful experience. I was able to meet new people and even see some old friends. I enjoyed listening to Dr. Bell, as he addressed a topic that I much needed and I was able to feel better. I also enjoyed the end with all the little skits. They were very funny and expressed themselves very well. I think by far the most valuable thing I learned from NSO is that BYU wants to help you. As and long as many of the processes of getting in and getting things approved are, BYU has a system set up to help you and wants you to let them help you so they can make the system flow easier for other students in the future.

How does it feel to finally be on campus?
It was such a great experience!! The campus it's so big and students and professors as well are so nice and helpful, I have to say that felt so lost at the first time but then I just started asking questions and everybody was willing to help me.

How did attending NSO help prepare you for the coming semester?
I helped me so much because they answered all my questions before I asked them haha. And all the events were very helpful to know more students like me, they were filling so confused and afraid about been on campus for the first time.

What was the most enjoyable part of NSO?
Everything!! all the activities were pretty fun and enjoyable. And even better, they were spiritual too.

What was the most important thing you learned?
I 've learned that everybody who is in this campus has a objective and we have to approach it, everybody is making sacrificies lilke me, everybody wants to be a better person, in other words we all want to learn more to be perfect for the eternal life, and BYU definetly has all the tools that we need, BYU is the only campus where we can learn how to be spiritually strengthen and find who we really are and where do we want to go.

• How does it feel to finally be on campus? It is great, to finally see what are you going to be dealing with.

• How did attending NSO help prepare you for the coming semester? During the tour I get to know what building will be my classes that save me a lot of stress on Monday and allow me to feel more relax.

• What was the most enjoyable part of NSO? I don't know the fact that we manage to talk with a lot of people, new students, old students, professors, etc.

• What was the most important thing you learned? To obey the honor code LOL, the most important thing I learned was how to put money in my ID card to print.

Post #2 After

How does it feel to finally be on campus? It's huge. Walking around and seeing different people makes me excited for school life again. Having been out of school for more than two years, I can't wait to jump back in again after attending NSO.

I am glad in NSO i got to meet other new students, and found out a lot of them are just like me: transfer students. That's makes me feel less lonely. I also enjoyed the different information booths, so I know that there are places to go when I need help.
