Of course, like every college student who embarks for their first time into the collegiate world, I'm apprehensive. I'd spent a year already in college, but it was known for being a party school, with an institute program that was literally demolished just prior to my arrival. I had a scholarship, I lived at home, and I worked two part time jobs, which left little time for campus life.
Everything is different now- I have my own place with roommates, I have to pay for everything myself (including school), and I have to find a good job in a marketplace generally void of well paying jobs. I'm worried about money- unexpected expenses come up, especially with a car, books, and possible tuition payments if I don't receive a scholarship again. The university I was previously attending wasn't exactly top notch, but I did well- now I'm at a competitive school, going into a competitive field- I HAVE TO DO WELL. I gave myself the ultimatum- 4.0 or bust. But can I do it? Am I smart enough? Those questions are on my mind a lot.
One thing that still excites me is the prospect of learning- about the world, about people, about myself, about just how life works in the epicenter of Mormon life- it promises to never be dull. I'm excited to be social! New friends are just what I need, and catching up with the friends I haven't seen it years will be fantastic for me. Sports are something I'm really looking forward to as well- and of course, dating.
The questions I have are really just concerned about the career path I'm thinking to pursue and how I get there. Medical school seems to be for me, but I'm still unsure of what exactly I need to be focusing on. The website says one thing, my friends say another- who do I listen to?
I'm hoping that the NSO program will just help me get acquainted with this new life, and give me a chance to relax and realize that there are people to help. I'd done EVERYTHING on my own my first year of college- I'm hoping this program will remind me that I don't have to do that again.
